Matthew Burtell is Head of Special Projects at the Bitcoin Policy Institute, where he leads new initiatives at the intersection of artificial intelligence, open source innovation, national security, and American technological leadership. Most recently, Burtell served as a Senior Policy Analyst for AI and Emerging Technology at the America First Policy Institute. Prior to that, Burtell served as a Fellow in the Office of Senator Cynthia Lummis, a Fellow at Georgetown’s Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET), and served in the United States Navy. Burtell holds a BS from Yale University, where he studied Computer Science and Mathematics, and has published both technical and policy AI research.
